A tribute at Bristol
On September 19, Bristol Motor Speedway will host a heartfelt tribute to Kyle Busch, the NASCAR champion whose name has become synonymous with the track’s concrete walls and roaring crowds. The No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota will be painted in the iconic yellow livery that once adorned Busch’s M&M’s‑sponsored car, and beneath that glossy finish a mosaic of his career photographs will be displayed, turning the vehicle into a moving gallery of his achievements.
Busch’s connection to Bristol is legendary; he captured eight Cup Series victories there and added nine wins in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and five in the Craftsman Truck Series. In 2010 and 2017 he swept all three national‑series events during a single Bristol weekend, cementing the venue as one of his most dominant stages.
Samantha Busch, Kyle’s wife, helped orchestrate the tribute, acknowledging the bittersweet nature of honoring her husband without his presence behind the wheel. She described the gesture as a way to let fans relive the moments that defined his love for the sport and the track.
A 15‑year partnership
The yellow scheme marks the culmination of a 15‑year partnership between Busch and M&M’s, a collaboration that yielded 56 of his 63 Cup Series wins and secured championships in 2015 and 2019 while he drove for Joe Gibbs Racing. After the sponsorship ended in 2022, the same colors now appear on Ty Gibbs’s No. 54 car, a nod to the mentor who once guided the young driver through the paddock.
Ty Gibbs, who grew up watching Busch race and even traveled with him to events, has spoken about the older driver’s influence on his own development. Now sitting second in the championship standings, Gibbs carries forward the legacy that Busch helped forge, and the tribute offers fans a chance to celebrate that lineage.
Beyond statistics, the event is intended to bring the NASCAR community together at the very place where Busch found his greatest triumphs, reminding everyone that his spirit remains woven into the fabric of the sport.
