Josh McCutcheon, a veteran of fifteen years at Kickapoo where he honed his craft as both player and assistant coach, has stepped into the role of head coach for the Ozark Tigers soccer program, bringing a wealth of experience and a clear vision for the team’s future.
A Fresh Coaching Perspective
The Ozark program, long celebrated for its deep community roots and a track record that includes five district championships since 2009, enters the new season with a sense of optimism. The 2025 campaign concluded with a 19‑7‑1 record before falling in the district semifinals to Nixa, a result that underscores both the program’s consistency and its hunger for further progress.
Returning talent anchors the squad: senior midfielder Ian Soto, the sole player from last year’s roster to earn all‑conference and all‑district honors, will again orchestrate play from the center of the pitch. Fellow senior Kian Sorlie, a dynamic midfielder/forward known for his playmaking instincts and vocal leadership, joins him, while senior defender Carter Rickard offers composure and versatility at the back. Junior midfielder Beckett Sorlie, though still a junior, has already earned respect as an emerging leader, and sophomores Oliver Bouse and Maclean Scott are expected to contribute valuable minutes after gaining experience as freshmen.
McCutcheon’s philosophy centers on a process‑driven approach, emphasizing daily improvement rather than immediate outcomes. He envisions a pathway that develops players from the bottom up, fostering competition in every match and aiming to unleash each athlete’s full potential by November. The season will open on August 27 with a home game against Capital City, a match that will serve as the first test of the new coaching staff’s ideas.
Beyond the Xs and Os, the program’s youth development pipeline, which feeds middle‑school and youth teams into the high school’s three‑team structure, continues to nurture talent. This integrated system, combined with the strong community support that has long surrounded Ozark soccer, positions the Tigers to build on past successes while charting a fresh course under McCutcheon’s guidance.
