Menasha High School football kicked off its season with a community scrimmage at the historic Banta Bowl on Lawrence University’s campus, drawing players, families and local supporters eager to see the team back in action.
A New Chapter for Menasha Football
Head coach Jeramie Korth praised the venue as a "phenomenal place," emphasizing its capacity and the opportunity it provides for athletes to refocus on positive aspects of their lives after recent challenges.
Since a tornado damaged their usual home field, the team has been practicing at Maplewood Middle School, using the new setting to rebuild confidence and camaraderie among the players.
The event was bolstered by a $15,000 fundraiser from the Green Bay Blizzard and generous backing from neighboring programs in Kimberly, Little Chute and Kaukauna, while the Green Bay Packers have pledged to host the team as special guests during their upcoming training camp.
Although the scrimmage will not affect official standings, the regular season opener is slated for next week when Menasha travels to face Plymouth High School at 7 p.m.
Community members such as Menasha High School student Greta Huss and Randy Waddell, whose son is on the roster, filled the stands, underscoring the town’s collective enthusiasm.
