A New Chapter for the Liberators
The Bolivar Liberators boys soccer team is poised to build on a strong 2025 campaign, returning seven starters as they chase the Class 2 District 5 Tournament championship. After finishing the previous season with an 18‑6 record, capturing the Willard Tournament title and finishing as runners‑up in the Ozark Mountain Conference, the squad enters the new year with a blend of experience and youthful vigor.
Veteran leadership will be tested early, however, as senior forward Colton Ingold will miss the season while recovering from a serious ankle injury. Ingold, who also announced his intention to focus on basketball, leaves a void in attack that will be shouldered by returning forward Xavier Cox, who has shifted to midfield to exploit his speed and scoring instincts.
Adding depth to the midfield is Bo Sanderson, a senior transfer who spent seven years abroad as a missionary kid before returning to the pitch for his final high school season. His global perspective and tenacity have already earned praise from coach Tyler F. Thompson, who highlighted the player's work ethic during a recent practice.
The team’s stability is underscored by ten returning lettermen, a factor that coach Jason Ingold believes will foster consistency across all phases of play. ‘We’re emphasizing daily improvement and collective responsibility,’ he said, noting that the chemistry forged during offseason workouts should translate into tighter defensive organization.
Freshmen Giancarlos Paz and Matthew Wilson, both noted for their size and experience beyond their years, are expected to see significant minutes. Their physical presence and technical ability should provide the Liberators with additional options in both attack and defense.
The schedule kicks off with a jamboree in Lebanon on August 25, followed by a highly anticipated match in Sedalia on August 27 as part of the Smith‑Cotton Shootout. Early games will serve as a litmus test for the team’s cohesion and tactical adjustments.
Season Outlook
With a roster that blends seasoned seniors like Nate Lobdell and Ben Berry, emerging talents such as Max Berry and Isaac Harper, and the fresh energy of players like Aiden Mooneyham and Austin Chalco, the Liberators aim to translate their offseason progress into on‑field success. The ultimate goal remains a district championship, a milestone that has eluded them since the 2025 semifinals.
