Preseason Expectations
The Virginia Cavaliers entered the 2026 campaign with a strong preseason outlook, finishing second in the ACC coaches poll with 68 points, just behind North Carolina's 73.
The poll placed Virginia alongside Duke and Wake Forest, each receiving two first‑place votes, while North Carolina collected four, underscoring the competitive balance in the conference.
Three Cavaliers earned spots on the 2026 Preseason All‑ACC Team, reflecting the program’s depth and the individual talent that could drive the squad forward.
Mia Abello, who was named to the first team in 2025, brings veteran leadership and scoring prowess, while goaltender Nilou Lempers was honored as the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year and an All‑American after a standout 2025 season.
Freshman Mary Adams also made an impact, appearing in 19 games and contributing four goals as she adjusted to the college pace.
The Cavaliers will open their season at home against James Madison on September 13 at 1 p.m. at Turf Field, following a preseason matchup with Penn State on August 28.
