A Family Legacy Fuels a Program Revival
Ken Papotta, a fourth‑generation Sicilian‑American coach, credits his father, Ken Papotta Sr., a mechanic who spent 12‑hour shifts and never missed a game, with embedding a relentless work ethic and deep family loyalty into his own coaching philosophy.
When Papotta took over the Viewpoint High School program, the team was mired in an 11‑29 record over four seasons. He introduced disciplined, community‑oriented practices that emphasized trust, teamwork and resilience, quickly reversing the tide.
Culture, Connection, and On‑Field Success
The new culture centers on connection among players and fans, with seniors such as running back Ben Burkin and cornerback Shane Anderson embodying the values of trust and perseverance. Their leadership has helped the team post an 8‑4 record in 2025 and secure a playoff victory, the first since 2015.
Beyond the field, Papotta’s approach weaves faith and community service into daily routines, creating a supportive environment that extends beyond the locker room and fosters a strong sense of belonging among the school’s roughly 500 students.
Looking ahead, Viewpoint aims to capture the Gold Coast League title and pursue a CIF‑SS championship, positioning the school as a growing athletic powerhouse in the region.
