A Bay Area Return for the Midsummer Classic
Major League Baseball confirmed that the 2028 All-Star Game will be played at Oracle Park, marking the first time the Bay Area will host the Midsummer Classic in more than a decade. The decision underscores the league's confidence in San Francisco's baseball heritage, its passionate fan base, and the city's ability to blend sport with cultural celebration.
San Francisco previously welcomed the All-Star Game in 2007, a night that will forever be remembered for Ichiro Suzuki's iconic inside-the-park home run. That performance added a poetic chapter to a city already steeped in baseball lore, and the 2028 edition will build on that legacy.
The upcoming game will mark the fourth occasion the San Francisco Giants have hosted the All-Star Game, having previously done so in 1961 and 1984 at the now‑demolished Candlestick Park. With Oracle Park joining an elite group of venues, it will become the eighth active MLB ballpark to host the event multiple times, alongside Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Progressive Field, Coors Field and T‑Mobile Park.
All-Star Week will extend beyond the game itself, featuring a series of community outreach activities, fan festivals and celebrations of the sport's biggest stars. The festivities aim to highlight baseball's traditions while engaging younger fans and reinforcing the game's role in fostering local connections.
Larry Baer, President and CEO of the Giants, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that "San Francisco's cultural vibrancy, its love of sport and its breathtaking natural scenery make it the perfect stage for baseball's biggest showcase." His remarks echoed the city's broader ambition to remain a hub for major sporting events.
San Francisco's recent portfolio of high‑profile events includes the Super Bowl, the FIFA World Cup and the NBA All-Star Game, positioning the Bay Area as a premier destination for global sports enthusiasts. The 2028 All-Star Game will be the latest addition to that distinguished list.
