A former treasurer of the North Manatee Soccer Club in Florida has been arrested after authorities say she systematically siphoned more than $146,000 from the organization’s accounts for her own use.
A Calculated Abuse of Trust
Nancy Kelly Fetzner, 52, served as the club’s treasurer from 2015 until mid‑2023, a role that gave her control over the group’s finances. According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, she began moving money into a personal sub‑account after her tenure ended, a breach that was not closed as required.
Investigators say the illicit transfers started in July 2023 and continued through August, with remote deposits totaling $44,721.44. Over the following months Fetzner executed more than 2,800 transactions that funded travel to Disney, Las Vegas and other sporting events, as well as purchases of jewelry and high‑end retail items.
The scheme unraveled when a club volunteer noticed a series of payments that bore no relation to soccer operations. The discovery prompted a criminal probe that revealed the sub‑account had been used to launder the stolen funds.
Fetzner now faces a scheme to defraud charge under Florida law, and she was taken into custody on an active warrant. If convicted, she could serve a substantial prison term and be ordered to repay the full amount taken from the club.
