Colorado University is pinning its hopes on a pair of experienced transfers to overhaul a defensive line that posted a disappointing 3‑9 record last season. The arrival of Ezra Christensen and Dylan Manuel brings a blend of size, technique and proven production that the coaching staff believes can shift the unit's trajectory.
Christensen, a 6‑foot‑2, 280‑pound tackle who previously starred at New Mexico State, topped the Big 12 with a PFF grade of 88.6 and led the Football Bowl Subdivision in quarterback hurries and pressures with 28. His versatility allows him to line up across the interior and disrupt opposing offenses, making him a centerpiece of the Buffs' scheme.
Manuel, a 6‑foot‑1, 300‑pound interior presence from Appalachian State, earned a PFF grade of 71.4 and ranked tenth among returning defensive tackles in the conference. In his final season with the Mountaineers he recorded 37 tackles, seven for loss, three sacks and an interception, showcasing the kind of sturdiness that can anchor the line and free up linebackers.
The coaching staff also welcomed Santana Hopper, a Tulane Green Wave alumnus who posted an 80 PFF grade last season, adding depth and pass‑rush capability. Both Christensen and Manuel are expected to provide the size and resistance needed to compete against the powerful front lines of the Big 12, especially as the team prepares for its season opener against Georgia Tech on September 3.
Chris Marve, the defensive line coach, emphasized the importance of chemistry during the transition, noting that the new additions will help occupy blockers and create opportunities for playmakers.
