A Transatlantic Debut
The Marietta High School football team touched down in England this week, marking the start of a daring international campaign that pits the Bulldogs against the NFL Academy in a highly anticipated season opener.
Senior quarterback Jayden Whiteside, who guided the team to a 5‑1 regional record last year under coach Cameron Duke, expressed confidence that the overseas experience will sharpen his squad’s tactics and chemistry.
The match, officially sanctioned by the Georgia High School Association, will be streamed live on the NFL UK & Ireland YouTube channel at 1 p.m. EST on August 20, giving fans across the Atlantic a front‑row view of the showdown.
After the game, the Bulldogs will remain in Loughborough, a historic market town about two hours north of London, where they will join forces with Samaritan’s Purse UK for a community service project that underscores the team’s commitment to giving back abroad.
Coach Duke highlighted the dual purpose of the tour: “We’re not only competing on the field, we’re also building bridges through service. It’s a chance for our players to grow as athletes and as citizens.”
The itinerary also includes a cultural immersion component, with the team scheduled to explore local landmarks and engage with English schools, fostering goodwill that extends beyond the gridiron.
Looking Ahead
With the season’s first test now just days away, the Marietta Bulldogs are poised to make a statement that resonates far beyond the scoreboard, showcasing the growing reach of American high school sports on a global stage.
