Eddie-Bo Franzen, the 15‑year‑old son of former Detroit Red Wings forward Johan ‘the Mule’ Franzen, has committed to the Little Caesar’s 15U AAA hockey program for the upcoming season, a move that places him at the forefront of a new wave of European talent in American youth hockey.
His recent stint with Linköping HC’s U16 side showcased a sharp offensive burst, as he recorded 14 goals and five assists in just 15 games, a performance that caught the eye of scouts across North America.
A Swedish Prospect in a New Landscape
Standing out as the league’s sole Swedish player, Eddie‑Bo will navigate the cultural shift from the smaller European rinks to the larger North American surfaces, a transition he describes as both exciting and demanding.
Off the ice, he will reside with former Red Wings netminder Chris Osgood, who shares a familial connection through his father’s storied career, while also benefitting from the mentorship of Osgood’s own son, Victor Plante, who was drafted by Detroit earlier this year.
The Franzen lineage is steeped in Red Wings history; Johan Franzen spent 11 seasons in Detroit, contributing 23 points in 23 games during the 2009 Stanley Cup run, and his relationship with former coach Mike Babcock, though marked by tension, remains a footnote in the family’s hockey narrative.
With the support of his father’s network and the familiar presence of Osgood, Eddie‑Bo hopes to translate his European skill set into a style that thrives on the faster, more physical North American ice.
