On Saturday, August 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Lucks Field Community Center in Richmond will host the Jaylen Martinez Back‑to‑School and Stop the Violence Drive, a community‑led effort that blends essential supplies with mentorship.
More than 200 students are expected to receive backpacks filled with school necessities, hygiene items and a fresh haircut, while organizers distribute resources aimed at curbing youth violence.
A Legacy in Action
Ciera Martinez, Jaylen’s mother, reflected on the enduring influence of her son, noting that the event embodies the love and hope he inspired throughout the city.
Local volunteers say the drive is more than a one‑time giveaway; it is a continuing tribute that seeks to steer underserved youth toward positive pathways and away from the cycle of violence.
The afternoon will culminate in a friendly basketball game, designed not only to showcase talent but also to teach teamwork, mentorship and leadership among participants.
