Track Enterprises has officially stated that the 2027 NASCAR season will not include any races at Rockingham Speedway, bringing to a close a short but highly praised return that began in 2025.
A Historic Venue at a Crossroads
The track’s revival was sparked by a partnership between Track Enterprises and NASCAR, which brought back the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and the ARCA Menards Series East for two consecutive years. Fans flocked to the Easter weekend events, creating an atmosphere that many described as electric and reminiscent of the track’s golden era.
The momentum was interrupted when the speedway was sold earlier in the year, a transaction that has left the facility’s long‑term prospects shrouded in ambiguity. While the new ownership has not released detailed plans, the lack of a confirmed schedule for 2027 has raised questions about the venue’s future.
Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent reflected on the recent chapter, calling the fan response "nothing short of incredible" and highlighting the community’s role in breathing new life into the historic venue.
Rockingham Speedway, opened in 1965, has long been celebrated as one of the sport’s most iconic circuits. After championship events left the track in 2004, a series of renovations and fresh investment revitalized the infrastructure, paving the way for the successful NASCAR returns.
Looking ahead, stakeholders remain hopeful that the combination of a passionate fan base, proven demand and ongoing improvements will secure a place for the speedway on future racing calendars, even as the industry watches closely for the next announcement.
