A blockbuster move in the East
The Charlotte Hornets announced a trade that sent guard Tre Mann to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for veteran point guard Dennis Schröder and cash considerations.
Mann, a Gainesville native who was selected 18th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021 NBA Draft, enjoyed his most productive season in 2022‑23, averaging 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists before a severe disc herniation limited him to just 13 games the following year.
After the trade, Mann appeared in 28 games for Charlotte, contributing 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, but injuries have since reduced his output to 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the 2025‑26 campaign.
The deal, first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania and later analyzed by ESPN’s Keith Smith, clears $6.8 million from Cleveland’s salary cap, bringing the franchise to roughly $29.6 million under the first‑apron threshold.
For Charlotte, the same $6.8 million is added to the cap, keeping the team comfortably beneath the luxury‑tax line, which now sits about $20 million above the threshold.
The transaction reflects a broader reshuffling of assets in the Eastern Conference, with the Cavaliers looking to bolster depth at point guard while the Hornets maintain flexibility under the tax ceiling.
