Oregon Ducks’ Preseason Scrimmage Highlights Physical Growth and Ball Security

Coach Dan Lanning praises early progress as key players show marked improvement

On August 15 the Oregon Ducks took the field at Autzen Stadium for their first major preseason scrimmage, running roughly 120 plays that included live tackling and a heavy emphasis on physicality while still prioritizing player safety.

Coach Dan Lanning praised the session, noting that the team emerged without injuries and that the emphasis on ball security and special teams had already begun to show tangible gains.

A Promising Start to Fall Camp

The coach highlighted the emergence of several players who a year ago were on the periphery, now making noticeable contributions. Noah Whittington, Bryce Boettcher and Kenyon Sadiq each displayed marked progress, transitioning from limited roles to active participants in the drill.

Turnovers were a mixed bag, stemming from both offensive miscues and aggressive defensive play. Defensive backs, including Peyton Woodyard, were credited with intercepting tip balls, underscoring a collective push to create more takeaways.

Lanning’s overall assessment was upbeat, describing the scrimmage as the best fall camp performance to date and a solid foundation as the Ducks move deeper into preparation for the upcoming season.
