The Colorado high school girls flag football scene witnessed another milestone as Mountain Vista’s unbeaten squad stretched its winning streak to 39 games with a 49‑6 triumph over Ralston Valley. The victory, played at Trailblazer Stadium in Highlands Ranch, kept the team on course for a third consecutive state championship.
A Record‑Setting Performance
Junior quarterback Peyton Marr, making her first start after stepping into the role vacated by Ariana Akey, delivered a dazzling display, throwing six touchdown passes. Marr’s precision connected with a host of receivers, including Lauren Culebro, Amelia Hansen and Harper Hofmeir, who each added scores on the ground and through the air.
The defense also left its mark, registering a safety and an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Senior Dani Scheich and sophomore Kayleigh Besch contributed key stops, while the secondary’s playmaking helped keep Ralston Valley at bay.
Despite a brief lightning delay that paused the action in the third quarter, Mountain Vista never lost its rhythm. The team built a 28‑0 lead by halftime, capitalizing on early momentum and a relentless offensive attack.
Ralston Valley, the previous season’s 5A state semifinalist, managed only a single touchdown in the final minute, cutting the margin to 49‑6. The win underscores the depth of talent on the Mountain Vista roster, a group that also features standout players such as Alena Rauert, Shelby Colosimo and Hadley Mattice.
With the streak now at 39, the team looks ahead to the state tournament where they aim to capture a third straight title. Coach Hadley Mattice praised the collective effort, noting that the experience of veterans like Ariana Akey, who finished her two‑year career with 8,980 passing yards and 171 touchdowns, continues to shape the program’s culture.
