Missouri Extends Assistants’ Contracts, Boosts Payroll Ahead of New Season

Six assistants receive raises and extensions, with the university earmarking an additional $485,000 annually for their salaries.

The University of Missouri announced this week that it will extend the contracts of six football assistants and increase their combined salary pool by at least $485,000 each year, underscoring a strategic investment in the program’s depth.

Expanded Coaching Staff and Financial Commitment

Head coach Eli Drinkwitz, who signed a new eight‑year agreement worth $64.5 million through 2031, will also see an additional $4 million allocated to his staff’s salary pool, a move that reflects the administration’s confidence in the team’s trajectory.

The financial boost comes as the athletics department earmarks roughly $16 million annually for assistant coaches, a figure that dwarfs the previous budget and signals a new era of compensation for the Tigers’ support staff.

Among the assistants, Brian Early received a $100,000 raise and an extension through January 2027, while Curtis Luper was granted a two‑year extension through January 2028 with a $50,000 increase. Derek Nicholson earned an $85,000 raise and a one‑year extension through the 2028 season, and Jacob Yoro will now command a total pay of $375,000 with a similar extension through early 2027.

New Arrivals and Their Contract Values

The university also welcomed several fresh faces this offseason, including Chip Lindsey, John Papuchis, Garrett Riley, Alex Atkins and Chop Harbin. Collectively, the contracts for Lindsey, Papuchis, Riley and Atkins are valued at $1.96 million, while Harbin’s agreement remains undisclosed pending final paperwork.

These moves not only reinforce the coaching roster but also position Missouri to compete more aggressively in the SEC, as the enhanced payroll aims to attract top talent both on the field and in the staff room.
