A resilient group
The Jayhawks’ running backs have been working through a series of setbacks, with several newcomers limited by injury. Yet the unit has managed to stay productive, as coaches repeatedly note the group’s effort and willingness to adapt.
Redshirt sophomore Jalen Dupree, who missed spring practice due to injury, has returned with a more decisive style, while transfer Yasin Willis brings a blend of agility, pass‑protection skill and improved catching ability. Both players have been singled out for their ability to contribute in multiple ways.
Veteran coach Jonathan Wallace emphasizes that the program aims to develop every‑down backs, constantly evaluating strengths and areas that need refinement. He points to the complementary nature of Willis and sophomore Dylan Edwards, noting that their differing skill sets can stress opposing defenses when paired.
Wallace also highlights the accountability that develops between the two, as they push each other to reach higher standards. This camaraderie, he says, is a key factor in the group’s cohesion despite the limited roster.
One specific issue that remains on the coach’s radar is a recent turnover in the red zone, a mistake that Wallace believes must be corrected as the season approaches.
