The Franklin Regional girls' soccer program has become synonymous with postseason consistency, earning a spot in the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs for seven consecutive years.
Despite reaching the quarterfinals on two occasions, the Panthers have repeatedly fallen just short, often by a single goal or in penalty shootouts, leaving a lingering sense of unfinished business.
This year, head coach Scott Arnold returns with a roster that retains nine starters from a 14‑3 campaign in which the defense allowed just 11 goals, a testament to the team's defensive solidity.
Among the returning standouts are senior center back Grace Copeland, who earned all‑section honors, and sophomore forward Reese Regelski, a two‑year all‑section selection who contributed 11 goals and nine assists last season.
The attacking thrust will also lean on Ella Copeland, who netted seven goals, as well as Elliana Copeland and Jocelyn Bertagna, each adding multiple points to the offense.
In goal, junior keeper Alaina McGrath will inherit the net after Addison Ayres departed for Allegheny College, where she set a single‑season shutout record.
Coach Arnold acknowledges that the team's playoff exits have often been decided in overtime or penalty kicks, and he is emphasizing better preparation for those high‑pressure moments.
The nonsection schedule presents a gauntlet of tough opponents, including matches against Thomas Jefferson, Montour, Blackhawk, West Mifflin, Elizabeth Forward and a rematch with Shaler.
Section rivals such as Latrobe, Penn‑Trafford and defending champion Plum are expected to be among the strongest competition, adding another layer of challenge.
Senior leadership from Maddie Slotterback and Gianna Buccigrossi is seen as a catalyst for the younger underclassmen, who bring fresh energy and a hunger to rewrite the team's playoff narrative.
