McLean’s Path Back to Norfolk
The Norfolk Admirals announced this week that they have secured the services of defenseman Andrew McLean for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, marking the fourth distinct stint with the franchise and underscoring the team’s confidence in his veteran presence.
Born in Waterford, Michigan, McLean first wore an Admirals jersey in a single appearance during the 2019‑20 season after four years at the University of Wisconsin‑Stevens Point, where he earned WIAC All‑Conference honors with 21 points in 28 games.
His professional journey has taken him from the SPHL’s Knoxville Ice Bears and the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears to the Elite Ice Hockey League’s Glasgow Clan, but his most productive season came in 2023‑24 when he led all Admirals defensemen with 33 points and ranked second on the team in goals with eight, posting a career‑high plus/minus of +19.
Midway through the 2024‑25 schedule, McLean was traded to the Iowa Heartlanders, where he contributed 19 points in 61 games before electing to return to Norfolk, a move that reflects his enduring connection to the organization and its fan base.
Coaches and teammates alike are eager to see how the veteran’s blend of offensive acumen and defensive reliability will shape the Admirals’ blue line as they aim for a deep playoff run next season, hoping his experience can translate into consistent wins on the ice.
