South Dakota Women’s Soccer Secures 1-1 Draw with Nebraska in Home Opener

Freshman Kinsley Pesicka's early strike and standout goalkeeping kept the Coyotes unbeaten

The South Dakota women's soccer team opened its season at Hibner Stadium, facing off against Nebraska in a tightly contested match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Freshman forward Kinsley Pesicka broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, finishing a well‑placed pass from Addison Heck to give the Coyotes the lead.

Goalkeeper's Heroics

Goalkeeper Cambell Fischer rose to the occasion, making eight saves, seven of them in the second half, to keep Nebraska at bay and preserve the advantage.

Nebraska answered back in the 83rd minute when Emma Donnelly found the net, leveling the score and shifting momentum in the final minutes.

With just 17 seconds remaining, Brooke Conway tried a desperate strike, only to be denied by Nebraska goalkeeper Avery Gillahan, who secured the draw with a last‑minute save.

The result improves South Dakota's record to 1-1-0, and the team will look to build on the performance when they travel to face Green Bay Wisconsin on August 20th.
