On August 16, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team opened its season with a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Boilermakers.
Six Goals in the First Half
Purdue struck early, finding the net in the 1st, 17th, 19th, 20th, 25th and 45th minutes to build a commanding lead before the break.
The Mastodons managed to pull one back in the 63rd minute when Kailey Hansen finished a corner kick from Morgan Gallagher, but Purdue added another goal in the second half to seal a 7-1 final score.
Goalkeeper Sam Christle was busy in the latter stages, making five saves to keep the margin respectable, while senior Amanda Leonard's shot in the 58th minute was denied by the Purdue keeper.
Reserve players Dalia Sabet and Hailey Hoskins also tested the defense with their own attempts, but the Boilermakers' offense proved overwhelming.
Looking Ahead
Purdue Fort Wayne will aim to rebound when they host Southern Indiana on August 23 as part of Family Weekend, hoping to turn the early setback into a learning experience for the squad.
The loss drops the Mastodons to 0-1 on the season, while Purdue improves to 1-1, setting the stage for a competitive remainder of the schedule.
