The Seminoles began the 2026 campaign by defeating Stetson 4-0 and then overcoming Florida International University 2-0, marking the second and third victories of a season that has already extended their unbeaten streak to 35 non-conference matches.
Against Stetson, the team’s attack unfolded after halftime, with transfers Sam Erbach and Tanner Strickland each finding the net alongside Joelle Jung and Peyton McGovern, whose first-career goal capped the scoring. The following game saw Wrianna Hudson open the scoring in the 55th minute and Nyanya Touray add another in the 56th, underscoring a pattern of second-half breakthroughs.
Rotation Keeps the Squad Fresh
Coach Brian Pensky’s heavy rotation strategy was on full display, with 22 players seeing action against Stetson and 21 against FIU. Most athletes logged under 70 minutes, a deliberate effort to maintain sharpness and avoid fatigue as the schedule ramps up.
Defensively, the Seminoles were equally impressive. In the Stetson match they allowed only two shots, and just nine in the FIU contest, while Janet Okeke anchored the back line with a series of clean performances that kept opponents at bay.
The early results have set high expectations for the team’s chemistry, especially as newcomers continue to integrate. The next test arrives on August 21, when Florida State hosts FAU at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Florida, kicking off at 7 p.m.
