Ole Miss Looks to Rebuild Receiving Corps for 2026 Playoff Push

New transfers and emerging talent aim to fill the void left by departed stars

Trinidad Chambliss emerged as the face of Ole Miss’s offense last season, engineering a dramatic game‑winning drive in the 2025 Allstate Sugar Bowl against Georgia and helping the Rebels secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.

However, the Rebels’ receiving corps will look markedly different in 2026. The team lost three of its top pass catchers to the transfer portal and professional drafts, with De'Zhaun Stribling heading to the San Francisco 49ers, Harrison Wallace III joining the Arizona Cardinals, and Cayden Lee moving to the Missouri Tigers.

A New Era of Receivers

Coach Pete Golding and offensive coordinator John David Baker have turned their attention to the incoming talent, highlighting Syracuse transfers Johntay Cook, Horatio Fields and Darrell Gill Jr., as well as 6‑foot‑1, 215‑pound signee Caleb Cunningham, who was heavily recruited by Alabama.

Cook, known for his slot‑receiver speed, is expected to complement the remaining veteran presence, while Fields brings a larger frame that could stretch defenses downfield. Gill Jr. arrives with back‑to‑back 500‑yard seasons and seven combined touchdowns at Wake Forest, giving the staff reason to believe he can contribute immediately.

The coaching staff stresses consistency, noting that the new unit must replicate the production that helped the Rebels reach the playoff last year. Baker said the offense will rely on the receivers to keep defenses honest and to give Chambliss the weapons he needs to extend drives.

Fall camp is already underway, and the Rebels will test their revamped group in the season opener against Louisville on September 6, a kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
