Eagles Edge Brescia 2-0 in Home Opener

Sophomore forwards shine as Morehead State controls possession and posts a clean sheet

The Morehead State Soccer Eagles opened their season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Brescia (Ky.) on a hot, muggy afternoon in Morehead.

Sophomore forwards Olivia Lowe and Kennedy Harmon found the back of the net for the first time in their college careers, each capitalizing on early chances that set the tone for the match.

Defensive Mastery and Possession Dominance

Coach Paul Cox highlighted the team's defensive clean sheet, noting the shutout extended the Eagles' unbeaten streak to 137 minutes and 18 seconds against Brescia.

The Eagles outshot their opponents 41 times, with 20 of those attempts on target, and controlled 75% of possession, keeping the ball in Brescia's half for the majority of the game.

A corner kick from Charlotte Lee sparked the opening goal in the 19th minute, the ball ricocheting off a defender's head before landing at Lowe's feet.

Midway through the second half, sophomore Natalie Lentine missed a shot that was rebounded by Jade Walton, only to be denied by Brescia keeper Laura Thompson.

The team's dominance was underscored by an 11-0 corner kick advantage and 10 offside calls, while Brescia managed 18 saves before being finally stymied.

Up next, the Eagles travel to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami RedHawks on Thursday at 7 p.m., aiming to continue their early-season momentum.
