A Line‑Focused Camp
The University of Tennessee opened fall camp with a clear directive: refine the units that will determine the team's success on both sides of the ball. The first scrimmage of the preseason gave coaches and players a chance to evaluate the offensive and defensive lines, which head coach Josh Heupel called critical to the Volunteers' overall performance.
Four players on the defensive front worked in unison to stop the run and pressure the quarterback, while the offensive line focused on creating openings for the backfield. Heupel emphasized that disciplined line play will be essential when the team opens the season against Furman on September 5.
Competition for starting spots intensified throughout the session, as younger linemen pushed veterans for reps. The intensity of the drills reflected the coaching staff's belief that a strong line of scrimmage can set the tone for the entire campaign.
With the matchup against Furman fast approaching, the Volunteers are using the camp to fine‑tune fundamentals and build chemistry. The focus on line play is expected to carry over into the regular season, giving Tennessee a solid foundation as it seeks to contend in the SEC.
