Abilene Christian University’s football program is buzzing with anticipation as two of its standout players earned preseason accolades for the upcoming 2026 season.
Senior offensive lineman Luke Roaten and senior defensive back Dillon Williams were both selected to the 2026 Preseason FCS All‑American second team, a recognition that underscores their impact on the field and the growing reputation of the Wildcats.
Roaten’s rise after a Washington State stint
Roaten arrived in Abilene after a transfer from Washington State, where he quickly established himself as a reliable right tackle. In his lone season with the Wildcats he started every game, delivering 65 knockdowns and posting an 84% blocking grade that earned him First Team All‑UAC honors.
His consistent performance not only helped the offensive line dominate the trenches but also contributed to the team’s overall chemistry as they prepare for a challenging schedule.
Williams brings veteran poise to the defense
Dillon Williams, a senior defensive back, transferred from the Central Arkansas Bears and immediately became a tackling machine. He finished the 2025 campaign with 83 stops and amassed 176 career tackles over four seasons, a feat that earned him a Second Team spot from Sports Illustrated/FCS Football Central.
Head coach Keith Patterson highlighted both players’ experience and confidence, noting that their presence adds a layer of stability to a defense that aims to tighten up against tough opponents.
A schedule that tests the Wildcats early
The 2026 campaign opens with a marquee matchup against No. 21 Lamar at Umphrey Provost Stadium in Beaumont, Texas, on August 28, setting the tone for a season that will also feature road tests at Texas Tech’s Galaxy Stadium in Lubbock and a home showdown with No. 13 Stephen F. Austin on September 12.
