Freshman goalkeeper Alexa Turmel has quickly become a cornerstone of the Canisius Golden Griffins women's soccer program.
In her collegiate debut, Turmel faced three shots on goal and denied every one, posting a shutout that contributed to a 1‑0 victory over Le Moyne. She recorded two saves in the first half and one in the second half.
The performance earned her the Metro Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor, marking the second season‑opening shutout for Canisius in the past three seasons.
A Promising Start
The Griffins will next test their mettle on Thursday when they travel to the Demske Sports Complex for a non‑conference match against Robert Morris, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Coaches have praised Turmel’s composure and shot‑stopping instincts, suggesting that her early impact could help the team build momentum as the schedule progresses.
