A Season Poised for History
The Kirtland football program, anchored by Coach Tiger LaVerde in his 21st year, is once again positioned to chase a ninth state championship. After completing the 2025 season undefeated at 15‑0 and capturing the Division VI title, the team returns with a core that has already proven its ability to dominate the CVC Valley Conference.
On offense, the line features five returning starters, including the seasoned Lucci Cantini, who will anchor both the offensive and defensive fronts. New quarterback Ben Loncar, stepping into the role vacated by Jake LaVerde, is expected to develop quickly and become a central figure in the backfield. The combination of a powerful line and a promising signal‑caller sets the stage for a potent attack.
Defensively, leadership will come from stalwarts such as Zander Perko and Sebastian Becker, who anchor the linebacking corps, while Tommy Caimi and Mario Lorber provide stability in the secondary. Carter Luzar adds depth at running back, and the defensive line benefits from the experience of players like Lucci Cantini, who will continue to disrupt opposing offenses.
The schedule presents a gauntlet of challenging matchups, including games against Cincinnati Taft, Poland Seminary, Perry, Rootstown, Conneaut, Chagrin Falls, Crestwood, Beachwood, Fairview, and Berkshire. Coach LaVerde’s legacy, now spanning over two decades, is built on consistency and excellence.
