Wyoming Cowboys Head to Sunshine Slam
The Wyoming Cowboys are set to travel to Daytona Beach, Florida, for the seventh‑annual Sunshine Slam, a preseason basketball showcase that will run from November 20 through November 23. The team will open its tournament run on November 22 against Duquesne University, then meet Kent State University two days later on November 24. High Point University will also compete in the event, adding depth to the field.
Series History
The matchup with Duquesne carries a familiar storyline. Wyoming holds a 3‑1 edge in the all‑time series, a margin built on a victory in the 1951 Quaker City Tournament and a recent win that dates back to 1961. Their last meeting before this tournament was on December 26, 1961, and the Cowboys have not faced the Dukes since.
Kent State presents another historic foe. The two programs have met only twice, with Wyoming edging a 75‑67 victory in 1958. The upcoming game will be the second meeting in the series and will test the Cowboys' early‑season chemistry against a disciplined Midwestern opponent.
Wyoming's preseason slate also includes a game against College of Idaho on October 24 and a clash with TCU on October 17, while a contest versus Northern Colorado remains to be scheduled. Regular‑season home games are slated for November 6 against Idaho State and December 5 against San Diego, providing a busy stretch that will stretch the roster's depth.
Fans can secure tickets for the Sunshine Slam through Ticketmaster, with sales opening on September 9 for advance purchases and remaining available at the Ocean Center on game days.
