The Minutemen have entered the most physical stage of their preseason camp, a period defined by heightened contact and a relentless push for live tackling. In their opening scrimmage they ran more than 100 plays, using the session to sharpen a defense that will be tested right away on the road.
Depth and Discipline Shape the Minutemen’s Preparations
Coach Joe Harasymiak’s 4‑2‑5 scheme is already producing turnovers, a sign of growing cohesion. Cornerback T.J. Magee, who missed much of last season with an injury, returned to practice and immediately made his presence felt, snatching two interceptions during a two‑minute drill. The senior, standing 5‑foot‑10, credits the collective effort of his unit for his early success.
At quarterback, William "Pop" Watson III stepped aside to give the backups a chance to run with the first team. Ty McCutcheon, Logan Inagawa, Aedan McCarthy and Will Perry rotated through a "bullpen day," giving the coaching staff a long look at the depth chart as they evaluate who can step in if the starter is unavailable.
The backfield is also drawing attention. Sophomore running back Elijah Faulkner has shown flashes of explosive potential, while freshmen T.K. Davis and Justin Lewis are being monitored closely as the staff assesses their readiness for game‑situational work.
A second scrimmage scheduled for Thursday will push reserves into realistic game scenarios, allowing the coaching staff to fine‑tune rotations and solidify the depth chart before the season opener against Rutgers. Throughout the camp, Harasymiak has repeatedly emphasized that the team’s focus must stay internal, controlling what they can on the field rather than reacting to external expectations.
