Tyler Dawson is set to bring his extensive coaching background to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons baseball program as an assistant coach.
After four seasons with the United States Air Force Academy, where he shaped hitters and infielders and helped the team capture a Mountain West regular‑season title, Dawson arrives in Winston‑Salem ready to elevate the program’s offensive strategy.
A Proven Developer of Talent
Under Dawson’s guidance, the Falcons posted a 27‑28 record in 2026, finishing second in Mountain West play and advancing to the tournament semifinals. The offense thrived, batting .307 with a .897 OPS and ranking among the top 25 nationally in several key categories.
His work produced standout performances, including Wyatt Hanoian’s 2026 Mountain West Player of the Year honor and multiple All‑Conference selections. In 2024, Jay Thomason earned Co‑Player of the Year recognition, while Sam Kulasingam was drafted into Major League Baseball, underscoring Dawson’s impact on player development.
Before his Air Force tenure, Dawson led Cleveland Community College to a runner‑up finish in the Region 10 Division II Tournament in 2022 and amassed a strong record in strength and conditioning, recruiting, and scheduling.
Dawson holds certifications in strength and conditioning, sports administration, and USA Weightlifting, and he previously served in multiple operational roles for Air Force baseball and softball.
Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter expressed enthusiasm about the hire, stating that Dawson’s holistic approach will enrich the Demon Deacons’ culture and competitiveness.
The addition of Dawson is expected to sharpen the team’s hitting philosophy and infield dynamics as the program looks to build on recent successes and contend for future championships.
