Fort Cherry's baseball team etched a milestone on Tuesday, reaching the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League final for the first time in four decades.
Semifinal Highlights
The Rangers edged Riverview 4-1 in the semifinals, a contest that turned on the arm of Ryan Huey and a disciplined defensive scheme.
Huey limited the Raiders to just one hit over the first three innings, striking out six batters while walking four, and later contributed a run-scoring single that opened the scoring.
The offense struck early, plating all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning; Miles Duncan led off with a double before scoring on Lukas Duncan’s hard‑hit single.
Neshannock will be the Rangers' opponents in the championship game, though the league has yet to announce the exact date and time of the matchup.
Riverview, under the guidance of coach Bill Gras, will now face South Side in a consolation contest that could still grant the Raiders a pathway to the state tournament; Gras noted that his squad remains hungry and ready to compete.
Both teams managed only three hits apiece, underscoring the tightly contested nature of the semifinal and the importance of timely hitting.
The game concluded when Colton Temple induced a ground‑out from Ian Stempfer, sealing Fort Cherry’s victory and sending the Rangers into the championship round.
