A Promising Opening
Northeastern's women's soccer squad began the 2025 season with a convincing 2-0 victory over Merrimack College on August 16, extending their unbeaten streak to two games.
The Huskies struck early, finding the back of the net twice in the first half. A penalty converted by sophomore forward Ava Gialanella opened the scoring, and a well‑timed header from freshman Ella McGee doubled the lead before the break.
Freshman midfielder Lauren Sutliffe played a pivotal role, earning a penalty that led to Gialanella's goal and later delivering a cross that McGee headed home. Sophomore defender Olivia Penn, mentioned in game reports, helped anchor a defense that required only a single save from senior goalkeeper Eliza Teplow in the second half.
Looking Ahead
With the win securing a 2-0 record, the Huskies are poised to chase a 3-0 start when they face the University of Rhode Island Rams on August 20. Coach hopes the early chemistry will translate into continued momentum as the schedule unfolds.
