Semifinal Set for Monday Night
The American Legion World Series will stage its semifinal on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, pitting the undefeated Tupelo, Mississippi, against a gritty Portland, Oregon, squad that earned its spot through a tiebreaker.
Mississippi entered the semifinal with a perfect 3‑0 record in the Stripes pool, capping a dominant stretch that included a 6‑2 win over Fairfield, California. The victory was highlighted by Eli McDaniels’ solo home run in the third inning and a two‑run burst from Wyatt McDaniels in the fifth, while RBI singles from Colin Flurry and a double from Ethan Cates added to the offense.
Oregon, meanwhile, finished its pool play at 1‑2 in the Stars bracket but survived a tiebreaker to reach the semifinal. The Oregon team had taken a 2‑0 lead in its final pool game against Midland, Michigan, before a walk‑off walk handed Midland a 4‑3 victory. Despite the loss, the Oregon players showed resilience, with Cal Gradwahl’s RBI play and Ben Foglio’s timely run scoring.
Regional Champions Meet in the Midwest
Both teams arrived in the tournament as champions of their respective regions — Mississippi as Mid‑South champions and Oregon as Northwest champions — adding a layer of regional pride to the matchup.
The winner of the Tupelo‑Portland contest will advance to Tuesday night’s championship game, where they will meet the champion of the opposite semifinal. That final will decide the 2026 American Legion World Series champion.
