Brad Bellinger Named Interim Coach for Notre Dame Boys Basketball

Nick Weiermiller’s sabbatical opens the door for athletic director Brad Bellinger to lead the team

Brad Bellinger has stepped into the role of interim head coach for the Notre Dame boys basketball team, taking over the reins for the 2026‑27 season after Nick Weiermiller announced a temporary leave.

Weiermiller, who guided the team to a Section 4 Class C championship earlier this year, is stepping away to care for his one‑year‑old son Colton, who was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate.

Bellinger brings a deep reservoir of experience to the bench, having served as Notre Dame’s athletic director and as the all‑time leading scorer for Elmira Southside’s basketball program, plus stints coaching the school’s junior varsity boys basketball team from 2019 to 2021 and the varsity baseball squad to a Section 4 Class D title in 2025.

A supportive transition

Head of School Bernadette McClelland voiced confidence in the interim arrangement, praising Weiermiller’s dedication to his family and welcoming Bellinger’s familiar presence. Weiermiller, meanwhile, has indicated he intends to resume coaching in the 2027‑28 season, promising continuity for the program.
