Rodney Bivens Jr. Leads Hale County Football Into a New Era of Discipline

The new head coach aims to build on the Wildcats’ winning culture through structure and accountability

A disciplined vision takes the helm

Rodney Bivens Jr. stepped onto the sidelines of Hale County High School in May 2026, inheriting a program that has already tasted success. His immediate priority is to embed a culture of discipline and accountability that he believes will lift the Wildcats to new heights.

Bivens arrives after stints at several neighboring schools, including Spain Park, Pell City, Hillcrest, Central, Hewitt‑Trussville and Gardendale. While his early career featured mixed results — an 8‑22 record at Central from 2020 to 2022 and a 3‑27 mark at Huffman from 2023 to 2025 — his playing days as a quarterback at Central and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating in 2008, give him a deep connection to the community.

Sophomore quarterback Marcus Bryant Jr. says the new regimen feels “structured and demanding,” noting that the coach’s expectations are clear and that the team is responding in practice. Senior lineman Justin Pitts adds that the offseason workouts have been more intense, and the players are buying into the higher bar set for every position.

Veteran player Christian Williams sees the coach’s arrival as a reinforcement of the Wildcats’ existing winning culture. He believes that Bivens’ emphasis on standards will keep the momentum going and prevent complacency that can accompany sustained success.

Former assistant Ryan Locke played a pivotal role in smoothing Bivens’ transition, shaping some of the philosophical underpinnings of the new system. Together they aim to preserve the traditions that have defined Hale County football while pushing the program toward continual improvement.
