Ellery Taylor, a Kentucky-born soccer prodigy, is gearing up for her freshman campaign at Centre College, a small liberal arts school known for its competitive women's soccer program.
A Star's Journey
Taylor arrives in Danville after a high school career that saw her start for four years at Boyle County High School, where she helped the team capture three consecutive 12th Region titles and earned the top statewide ranking in 2025.
Her senior season was nothing short of spectacular: she netted 30 goals and added 20 assists, propelling her to All‑American status and making her a finalist for the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year award.
Adjusting to College
The transition from the familiar fields of Harrodsburg to the collegiate pitch has brought a new pace and defensive intensity, a challenge Taylor acknowledges but welcomes as she adjusts to the faster tempo of college soccer.
Centre coach Jay Hoffman, who initially considered placing Taylor in midfield, says the freshman’s versatility could prove valuable, though her exact position remains undecided as the team finalizes its lineup.
Family Legacy and Future Plans
Off the field, Taylor will study business or finance, a path that ties into her family’s long‑standing involvement with Bright Leaf Golf Resort, where her mother, Tia King Taylor, works and where the resort’s founder, Buck Blankenship, opened the course in 1963.
A lifelong connection to teammate Maggie Burke, who also committed to Centre, adds a familiar anchor as the two former high school teammates navigate college together.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming season opener against Lincoln Memorial on August 20 will serve as Taylor’s first test, followed by the regular‑season debut on September 1, moments she hopes will showcase her goal‑scoring instincts at the next level.
