A veteran’s comeback
The Adirondack Thunder have confirmed the return of forward Daniel Amesbury for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, cementing his place on the roster after a trade from the Utah Grizzlies.
At 35, Amesbury brings a blend of size and physicality that has defined his career, having amassed 1,520 penalty minutes across 252 professional games.
His most recent stretch with the Kansas City Mavericks saw him appear in 33 games, during which he logged 171 minutes in the penalty box and contributed two points.
Overall, the veteran has collected 32 points — 15 goals and 17 assists — while maintaining a reputation as one of the league’s most prolific penalty‑minute generators.
Strategic addition
Coaching staff view the signing as a calculated move to bolster the team’s toughness while preserving depth at forward, especially as the club prepares for a competitive schedule in the ECHL.
Amesbury’s journey includes stints with the Fort Wayne Komets, the Utah Grizzlies and several other clubs in the ECHL, as well as appearances in the Central Hockey League, the SPHL and the Federal Prospects Hockey League.
Born in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, the forward will now look to translate his defensive grit into the Thunder’s pursuit of a playoff berth, a goal aided by the club’s affiliation with the New Jersey Devils and the Utica Comets in the AHL.
