Marist College announced today that Matt Gonzales will join the Red Foxes baseball program as its new assistant pitching coach, working directly under head coach Lance Ratchford.
Gonzales arrives after a season spent in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, where he refined his coaching approach with the Glen Falls Dragons during the summers of 2024 and 2025.
A Journey From Player To Coach
The Scotia native redshirted at the University at Albany in 2017 before transferring to Herkimer Community College, where he spent two seasons as a standout pitcher.
At Herkimer, Gonzales helped guide the team to NJCAA World Series appearances in both 2018 and 2019, showcasing his ability to develop talent at the national level.
Following his collegiate playing days, he transferred to Barton College for the 2020 and 2021 campaigns before concluding his eligibility at Hofstra University in 2022, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's in Exercise Science.
Gonzales brings a blend of academic rigor and practical experience, having previously served as pitching coach for Hudson Valley Community College during the 2025-26 season.
What This Means For Marist
Head coach Lance Ratchford expressed enthusiasm about the addition, highlighting Gonzales's proven track record of developing pitchers and his deep roots in New York baseball.
The hiring is expected to strengthen the Red Foxes' pitching staff, providing recruits with a coach who understands both the competitive and educational dimensions of the sport.
Gonzales, a lifelong resident of Scotia, New York, will now be part of the Marist community, bringing his expertise to the campus in Poughkeepsie.
