Furman University announced that Jake Garcia will be the Paladins' starting quarterback for the 2026 college football season. The graduate transfer, who has navigated a winding path through several programs, is slated to make his debut in the season opener against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Garcia arrived at Furman after stints at Miami (FL), Missouri, East Carolina and Michigan, accumulating 2,376 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions over his collegiate career. His most recent full season came at East Carolina in 2024, where he threw for 1,426 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Prior to joining Furman, Garcia was part of Missouri’s roster in 2023. The Tigers posted a 36‑7 victory that year, though Garcia did not see action on the field. His journey reflects the increasingly fluid landscape of player movement in modern college football.
The Paladins will open the season with a Week 0 contest against Anderson, then travel to Knoxville to meet Tennessee in Week 1 on September 5. The matchup is part of the broader College Football season’s opening weekend.
Tennessee, meanwhile, is still sorting out its own quarterback situation. Sophomore George MacIntyre and freshman Faizon Brandon are locked in a competition for the starting role, with the coaching staff expected to make a final decision after the last preseason scrimmage.
