Road trip ahead
The UC San Diego women's soccer squad is set to embark on its first away stretch of the season, traveling to Las Vegas to meet UNLV on Thursday and then heading north to Flagstaff for a Sunday showdown with Northern Arizona. Both games mark the team's initial tests outside the friendly confines of the campus.
After opening the campaign with a 4‑2 victory over Utah Tech, the Tritons bring a potent attack anchored by freshman forward Ava Tibor, who erupted for four goals in that contest and earned Big West Freshman of the Year honors. Her six goals as a freshman set a new Division I program record.
Goalkeeping excellence
Between the posts, senior keeper Charlotte Wilfert has cemented her place in program history, posting nine shutouts during the 2025 campaign and establishing a new career high. Her presence has allowed the team to grind out results even when the offense stalls.
Head coach Kristin Jones, who oversees a 56‑51‑28 overall record and a .555 conference winning percentage, emphasizes continuity as five transfers and three first‑year scholar‑athletes join the 2026 roster. The coaching staff is confident that the blend of experience and fresh talent will keep the Tritons competitive.
The upcoming fixtures carry added significance. A 3‑2 win over UNLV on August 24, 2025, and a 0‑0 draw with Northern Arizona on August 21 illustrate the team's ability to compete against varied opponents. Looking ahead, the Tritons will also face West Coast Conference rivals Loyola Marymount and the University of the Pacific in the 2027‑28 season.
