Indiana University’s men’s soccer program will open its 2024 season on Thursday, August 18, when it hosts Notre Dame at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington. The matchup marks the 54th meeting of a series that has seen the Hoosiers dominate with a 34‑10‑6 record, and it will be only the second time the two schools have opened the season in Bloomington since 1974.

This year’s squad features a highly touted transfer class that includes Stephane Njike, a first‑team All‑Big Ten selection and member of the Top Drawer Soccer preseason XI, as well as forward Easton Bogard, who finished the summer with eight goals in the USL League Two and four more in preseason matches for the Hoosiers.
Notre Dame arrives with its own momentum, having secured its 25th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2025 and finishing the season with a 9‑7‑4 record under head coach Chad Riley, who boasts an 80‑51‑26 record at the South Bend campus. Senior forward Nolan Spicer was recently placed at No. 54 on the Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 list and earned a spot on the ACC Preseason Watch List.
The historical narrative adds another layer of intrigue. Indiana’s last meeting with the Irish ended in a 1‑0 victory in South Bend, courtesy of a golden‑goal strike by Ben Yeagley in 2021, and the Hoosiers have gone unbeaten in their last ten encounters, posting a 6‑0‑4 record. The teams have met six times in season openers, with the Hoosiers holding a 4‑0‑2 edge, including the 2021 golden‑goal win.
