Jay Moore, a former Nebraska defensive end who starred for the Cornhuskers from 2002 to 2006, has been named the new color commentator for the Husker Radio Network’s football broadcasts this season, replacing Damon Benning who now serves as the program’s Director of Player Development and Brand Strategy.
A new era in Husker broadcasting
Moore’s football journey continued beyond college as he signed with the San Francisco 49ers, later playing for the Los Angeles Rams and the Tennessee Titans before concluding his professional career with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.
Before entering the broadcast booth, Moore built a reputation as an analyst on Nebraska Public Media’s Big Red Wrapup and state high school championship coverage, delivering insights that blend on‑field experience with a journalist’s curiosity.
Joining Moore will be Kyle Crooks, the longtime Voice of the Huskers, who begins his second year as the primary play‑by‑play announcer, together calling games on KLIN and Froggy 98 across the state.
A native of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Moore’s deep roots in the community give his commentary a hometown perspective that resonates with longtime fans and newcomers alike.
His background, from a standout defensive end to a professional athlete and finally to a media analyst, equips him with the insight and enthusiasm that listeners can expect to hear each game day.
