The West Seattle High School baseball squad faced a must-win situation in the Metro League 3A Tournament on Tuesday, knowing that a loss would have sent them packing. Facing the Lakeside Eagles, the Wildcats dug deep, ultimately pulling off a 3-2 victory that kept their championship hopes alive.
A Turning Point in the Metro League
The decisive moment came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Samuel Kraynek stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch single. The hit drove in Owen Fahy with the winning run, sealing a dramatic walkoff for the Wildcats and sparking a roar from the home crowd.
West Seattle’s offense was bolstered by additional RBI contributions from Sacha Ninburg and Cole Williamson, while Blue Cheha added a couple of timely hits that kept the rally alive. The combined effort gave the team a narrow but secure lead.
On the mound, starter Brady Sternberg opened the game but was removed after four innings, making way for Cameron Fitterer to take over. Fitterer pitched competently before being swapped out in the final frame, allowing Ninburg to close out the game on the mound.
Looking ahead, the Wildcats are scheduled to meet Garfield on Wednesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at Eastside Catholic’s field, a matchup that could further shape their playoff trajectory.
