Jayshon Platt Earns Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List Honors

The Illinois wide receiver joins elite company as the 2026 season approaches

Jayshon Platt, a wide receiver who honed his craft at Illinois University, has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2026 Biletnikoff Award, one of college football’s most coveted honors for pass catchers.

A Prestigious Honor

The Biletnikoff Award, presented annually by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, celebrates the most outstanding receiver in the Football Bowl Subdivision, regardless of position. Selection is determined by a committee of roughly 600 seasoned college football journalists, commentators and former receivers.

Platt’s inclusion marks him among 45 candidates nationwide and makes him one of only seven receivers from Big Ten programs to receive the preseason nod.

2025 Season Highlights

During the 2025 campaign, Platt appeared in 12 games with nine starts for Florida Atlantic, compiling 46 receptions for 720 yards and five touchdowns. He also ranked 30th nationally with eight catches of 30 yards or more, underscoring his ability to make big plays downfield.

In addition to his receiving work, Platt proved his value as a return specialist, handling 25 kickoff returns for 613 yards, averaging 24.5 yards per return.

His performance earned him a spot on the 2026 Jet Award Watch List, which recognizes top return specialists, further cementing his reputation as a dynamic playmaker.

Platt is not the only Illini athlete receiving preseason accolades. Fellow teammates such as Matthew Bailey, Bret Bielema, Brandon Henderson, Jake Renfro and Ca’Lil Valentine were also mentioned among various award watch lists, highlighting the program’s depth of talent.

Looking Ahead

As the 2026 season draws nearer, analysts expect Platt to be a central figure in Illinois’s offensive schemes. His blend of route-running precision, hands reliability and return prowess positions him as a key contributor for the Fighting Illini as they aim to climb the Big Ten standings.
