The University of Evansville men's soccer team will kick off its 2026 campaign on Thursday evening, hosting Bellarmine Knights at 6 p.m. Central Time in a match that promises to set the tone for the season.
A legacy of growth under Tarver
Coach Robbe Tarver has steered the Purple Aces to an 18‑12‑11 record over the past two seasons, a stretch that includes a dramatic Cinderella run in the 2024 MVC Tournament and a first‑ever MVC regular‑season championship in three decades.
That success has been built on a core of sophomores who have already made their mark, most notably Devin Shepherd, who started every game in 2025 and finished second in the conference for goals and points, even scoring a brace against Xavier.
A familiar foe
The series between Evansville and Bellarmine stands at 1‑1‑3, and the most recent encounter ended in a 1‑1 draw in Evansville. Bellarmine finished the 2025 campaign with an 8‑4‑5 record and reached the ASUN Tournament championship game before falling in overtime to North Florida.
The roster will also welcome a wave of newcomers, with 18 players arriving for the new season, including eight freshmen and four Division I transfers such as Leon Suzuki and Etienne Ravelli, who are expected to add depth and experience.
With both teams poised to field competitive lineups, Thursday’s opener is more than a season opener; it is a test of how quickly the Purple Aces can translate recent triumphs into sustained excellence.
