A New Chapter in Suffolk Baseball
The Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame and the Suffolk County Police Athletic League have joined forces to launch a new baseball history exhibit at PAL Valero Field of Dreams in Holtsville, turning the centerfield fence into a living museum of local baseball heritage.
The display, the 13th public showcase from the Hall of Fame and the first to be mounted on a baseball field wall, features large‑format portraits that chronicle the people, moments and stories that have defined Suffolk County baseball.
Among those honored are Hall of Fame President Chris R. Vaccaro, Executive Director George Waldbauer, Development Director Don Yorie, Board Member Ken Kortright and Newsday sports writer Gregg Sarra, whose contributions illustrate the depth of talent in the region.
Beyond the visual tribute, the partnership supports a Leadership Institute that connects young athletes with these inductees and local leaders, fostering mentorship, perseverance and personal growth.
By placing the exhibit directly on the field, organizers hope to give emerging players a tangible connection to the legacy that surrounds them, inspiring the next generation to carry forward Suffolk County’s baseball tradition.
