The Wheeling Nailers announced this week that forward Chris Dodero has agreed to a contract that will keep him in the lineup for the upcoming 2026‑27 ECHL season.
A Veteran's Return to the ECHL
At 30 years old, Dodero enters his fifth professional season, having navigated three full campaigns in the ECHL and a decorated stint abroad.
His European adventure began in 2022‑23 with HK Olimpija Ljubljana, where he helped the club capture the Slovenian Championship before moving on to Graz 99ers in the ICE Hockey League and Starsbulls Rosenheim in Germany's DEL2.
ECHL Resurgence
After returning to North America, Dodero started the 2024‑25 year with the Tahoe Knight Monsters before a mid‑season trade sent him to the Cincinnati Cyclones, where he posted 18 points in 39 appearances.
A subsequent move to the Idaho Steelheads for the 2025‑26 campaign saw him record 27 points while posting a plus‑11 rating over 52 games, underscoring his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.
Prior to turning pro, Dodero spent five seasons at American International College, amassing 71 points in 134 games and peaking with a 29‑point season in 2021‑22.
The Nailers hope his blend of experience and work ethic will add depth to their attack and provide a reliable option in crucial moments as the team looks to build on recent progress.
