Kentucky Football has reshaped its non‑conference schedule, moving the matchup with Murray State to August 28, 2027, and the game with Eastern Illinois to August 26, 2028. Both contests will be played at Kroger Field, turning the stadium into the launchpad for two consecutive season openers.
The changes are a direct response to the NCAA’s decision to extend the regular season to 14 weeks beginning in 2027. This adjustment creates a Week Zero slot, allowing teams to start their campaigns earlier than in previous years.
Historically, Kentucky holds a dominant record against Murray State, having won all four meetings, the most recent a 48‑6 victory in 2024. The upcoming clash will be the first football meeting with Eastern Illinois, although the two schools have already faced off in men’s basketball at Rupp Arena.
The 2027 opener against Youngstown State is slated for September 5 at Kroger Field with a 1 p.m. ET kickoff, while the 2028 game versus Eastern Illinois will also open the season on August 26. Both games are positioned to capitalize on the new scheduling window and to give the Wildcats a strong early home‑field advantage.
